For the 3rd Saturday in a row Saintfield were on their travels. On this occasion the hosts were Holywood. A significant number unavailable due to a range of personal commitments meant a much changed squad faced the challenge of one of the favourites for promotion from 1C.
Saintfield were defensivey secure in the opening exchanges and the individual errors of previous weeks were not a factor in a very tight and keenly contested first half. Holywood scoring the only goal following a good move out from defense exploiting an overload down their left wing which Saintfield could have covered better.
A collection of corners for Holywood right at the start of the second half saw them double their lead when a defensive lapse allowed an unmarked header.
Saintfield regrouped and pressed Holywood and as they opened up a bit more in search of a route back into the game Holywood had a bit more space to attack but neither side capitalised on a couple of opportunities with Rea’s back post effort and a strong penalty appeal from Joshua Johnston-Wood which the referee disagreed with were Saintfield’s best opportunities. At the other end Harper made a couple of smart saves and Holywood went close with a couple of chances on the break.
Saintfield turned to their bench to add some energy and gave the youthful trio of Moore, Gregg and Moore-Stanley (on debut) a run but Holywood sealed the win with a late 3rd.
