A combination of work, injury and Covid combined to force Saintfield into 6 changes for the visit of Holywood. Having played the same opposition a few weeks prior Saintfield certainly knew they were in for a tough match however they started brightly and were giving as good as they got in the early exchanges. The unfamiliarity in defensive areas however eventually told as some poor set piece defending gave Holywood a 2 goal lead. Saintfield to their credit regrouped and scored a good goal in response with Liken heading home after a great cross from Simpson.
At half time Saintfield certainly felt they were in the game however as Holywood applied pressure at the start of the second half Saintfield’s midfielder Johnston-Wood picked up a hamstring strain which allowed Holywood to score their 3rd. Saintfield were forced in to changes and gave debuts to Donnan and Martin from the bench but in truth the men from Holywood just had too many options and ran out comfortable 5-1 winners.
No lack of effort from an unfamiliar side and a number of positives to take to next week's trip to Greenisland.
